Enrichment at Holy Family

At Holy Family we endeavour to offer a range of activities throughout the year to enrich our children's experiences here.

We offer the following:

  • Civic engagement: Student responsibilities - Head pupils and prefects (who must apply and have a 'job interview'), student council (elected democratically), playground ambassadors, community engagement with our parish, local service to our area such as litter picking. We are also active members of The Blackpool Symposium, which engages student councils across schools in Blackpool and are working on making their town a better place.
  • Arts and culture: We have excellent links with Blackpool's Grundy Art Gallery and all children from Y1 up will visit as least once a year. Our children also take part in the Blackpool festival 'Schools' live, performing at The Winter Gardens.
  • Nature, outdoors and adventure: Our Year 1 and 2 children enjoy a term's Outdoor learning session, provided by experts from 'Beacon Fell Adventures'. Our Student council acts on climate issues - for example selling fairtrade treat items. Our children experience a range of trips aligned to their curriculum but the pinnacle trips are our outdoors adventurous trips to Hothersall Lodge and a week-long residential to Water Park in the Lake District.
  • Sport and physical activities: We are proud holders of the Platinum Sports Award and hold sport in very high regard. Every year we take part in athletics, netball and football leagues and also enjoy a jam-packed week of sport in June called 'Youth Games'. We offer a range of sporting after-school clubs. We hold bikeability every year. This year we are lucky enough to attend The Open golf tournament after our success at town level.
  • Developing wider life and future skills: we are lucky to have a great relationship with our local police force who have come into school to teach our children about fundamental British values, being a good citizen and also cyber security. Our year 4 team goes annually to UCLAN where they enjoy STEM activities. Our annual safety week covers all aspects of safety: water, railway, road, fire, financial, internet and also keeping our bodies safe.
