Music Intent

Statement

“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them - a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.”

Gerald R. Ford

Intent

At Holy Family, lessons are taught in a logical progression, systematically and explicitly enough for all pupils to acquire the intended knowledge and skills and build upon prior learning. Lessons follow a recognisable sequence that is pertinent to the unit of learning or topic and moves learning forward. Children develop their vocabulary, musical skills and knowledge of Music as they progress through the school. Children’s long-term memory is developed to ensure they remember the main aspects of music/ musical vocabulary for each unit of learning or topic. This will gradually increase as they progress through the school.
